An apparent autograph of Greta Garbo (1905-1990) on a pale blue card, reading "for your Grandson / Greta Garbo / Wien 22/11 1932" and bearing a small photograph of Garbo affixed at the upper right. Together with another card of the same stock with the name Mano Swartz and an address in Vienna, and an envelope mailed to Swartz in Vienna of a size to enclose the cards. The envelope has a Norwegian postmark from the town of Bekkelagshogda dated November 6, 1933. It is unclear whether this Mano Swartz is, or is related to, the fur retailer of that name or the company he founded in 1889.

MARIETTA LESLIE COTTON (1926/7-1865/6): WOMAN IN A FUR COAT Oil on canvas signed twice lower right unframed. 35 1/2 x 29 3/4 in. Note: Cotton born in NY studied with Carolus-Duran and exhibited and won a prize at the Paris Salon of 1889. While living abroad she became a friend and neighbor of John Singer Sargent. He admired her portraiture: her ability to capture likeness and character. Cotton was twice painted by William Merritt Chase. One of the paintings ''Portrait of a Lady in Black '' is on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Cotton had a talent for painting the right person at the right time and exhibiting her portraits when the sitters reached their height of popularity. She maintained studios in Paris London and New York. Her friends and sitters included the Astors Vanderbilts the British Royals and Theatrical legends such as Greta Garbo Pola Negri and Mistinguett.
