  8-panel Korean screen or Irworobongdo, "A Korean folding screen with a highly stylized landscape painting of a sun and moon, five peaks which always was set behind Eojwa, the king’s royal throne during the Joseon Dynasty. It literally means "Painting of the Sun, Moon and the Five Peaks" and is also called "Irwoldo" ("Painting of the Sun and Moon") or "Irwolgonryundo" ("Painting of the Sun, Moon and Mount Kunlun"). The sun and moon symbolize the king and queen while the five peaks denotes a mythical place. The screen serves to display the majesty of the Joseon royal court. This screen likely dates from the late 19th or early 20th c. It appears to be oil on silk or fine canvas, with pigment loss and craquelure throughout. The wood frame of each panel is wrapped with a canvas like material, the paper is laid down on that wrapped edge. Some water stains are apparent through the lower part of the panels. each panel 17-1/2" w x 66-1/2" h, 140" wide in all. Jean-Baptiste-Claude Sené, maitre in 1769. 37 3/4 x 26 1/2 x 29 in., height of seat 15 1/2 in. Note: The son of the menuisier Claude I Sené, J.B.C.Sené was established in the rue du Cléry at the sign of the Gros Chapelet. In 1785, he was appointed fournisseur du Garde-Meuble de la Couronne alongside Jean-Baptiste Boulard, and he gradually supplanted the latter to become amongst the most celebrated menuisiers of the Louis XVI period. Royal patronage dominated the vast majority of his mature career, and he was responsible for supplying seat-furniture to the King and Queen at Saint-Cloud, Versailles, Compiègne, Fontainebleau etc. Condition Scattered wear and a few holes to the needlework panels. Minor seam separations, one to the top rail with an old repair. Old repair to the back left legs of both chairs. Minor fading and expected small age splits. Beautifully carved with guilloche borders, large scale.   MAHOGANY TALL CASE CLOCK CIRCA 1810A very good quality figured mahogany eight-day hour strike longcase clock by Wm. Young of Dundee. The iron face is beautifully painted to represent England, Scotland and Ireland under the King and Queen of England. Housing a brass eight-day time and strike weight driven movement, retaining the original weights and painted iron pendulum. The case shows beautiful quarter columns along with recessed panels on the door and base. Young was active 1805-1843, a prolific maker of longcase clocks, the cabinet work used was always of the highest quality. He is listed as Watch & Clockmaker and working in the High Street, Dundee, Scotland. England, circa 1810. Measuring, 83" high x 19" wide x 10" deep.
