Note: The above offered lot is a fine example of late neoclassical refinement. The clock is chiseled with a classical urn with ram masks holding foliate swags and raised on incurved legs ending on hoof feet, above the case of break-front outline centered by an enamel dial flanked by foliate scrolled pilasters terminating in a sun flower reserve issuing a laurel swag, above rinceau and bound laurel decoration, above a deep acanthus cast border over a thin rinceau border, raised on cabochon cast bun feet. A similar clock with the identical central section is illustrated in Pierre Kjellberg, Encyclopédie de La Pendule Francaise du Moyen Age au XXe siècle, 1997, p. 169, plate B.
Condition
Very small nicks to the enamel dial rim at numbers 3 and 12. Minor rubbing and scuffing to the gilding with slight oxidation. Not currently working, there is a pendulum and winding key.
