Note: Alexander Roux examples with signed bronze mounts are exceptionally rare. Other New York firms of the mid 19th century, including Pottier & Stymus and bronze foundry P.E. Guerin, typically signed and initialed bronze mounts in a similar manner. The bronze castings found on the chair offered here were likely cast from patterns Roux used for wood carvings on related furniture, as a similar wreath motif is found in carvings on several documented Roux objects. Note: The form and proportions of the secretary bookcase offered here are nearly identical, down to the dimensions, to a secretary attributed to Duncan Phyfe from the estate of Dr. Saul Jaiven of Stamford, Connecticut, illustrated in Duncan Phyfe, Master Cabinetmaker in New York by Peter Kenny, et al. (pl. 33, pg. 209). The configuration of the fitted secretary drawer matches several documented Phyfe examples, including a work table also illustrated by Kenny (fig. 168, pg. 133).

The shape and proportions of the "Grecian" scrolls, circular medallions, and distinctive club feet are a close match to a Grecian bedstead from Millford illustrated in Duncan Phyfe: Master Cabinetmaker in New York by Peter Kenny et. al (pl. 55, pg. 249), in addition to multiple other pieces from Millford sharing the same motifs.
