John Washington Love (American, 1850-1880), still life with cherries, oil on board; 8 3/8" x 12 5/8"; signed lower right, dated 1870 verso. This painting was featured in the Columbus Collects exhibition at the IMA-Columbus Gallery, 2002. From 1872-1876, Love was a student at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and the Atelier Gerome in Paris and his sketches were well represented in student expositions. He returned to Indianapolis in 1876 and opened the Indiana School of Art in 1877.
