17TH CENTURY RELIGIOUS PORTRAIT, PRAGUEOil on canvas painting of Joes Cztiborius Kotva. Inscription at bottom states he is a theologian during the time of "Ferdi. II" or Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand II (1619-1637). Painting is set in Bohemia (today Prague, Czech Republic) as the Church of Our Lady before Tyn can be seen over the subject's shoulder. A small suit of armor stands on the table next to a goblet. Well stabilized and relined. Some loss at bottom along with wear and visible repairs. Modern frame with period styling.

Mercurius Politicus number 17 September 26 through October 3, 1650, the first year of printing, each page approx. 5-1/2" L x 7" H and printed front and back. The London Gazette number 38, March 22 thro ugh March 26, 1666, approx. 6-1/4" L x 11" H. The Observator number 18, May 28, 1681, approx. 7-1/4" L x 12" H. Historical topics include the Second Ango Dutch War, Cretan War, the minting of new money, the British Civil War, anti Whig sentiments n the question and answer format, and various religious or political topics.
