KEITH REYNOLDS (B. 1929) "EMLAIN
KEITH REYNOLDS (B. 1929) "EMLAIN CARGO FREIGHTER"Keith Reynolds (American, B. 1929) "Emlain Cargo Freighter" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Canvasboard.
Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation.
This painting is the original which was published on the Republic of the Marshall Islands 29c Emlain stamp and First Day Cover issued February 15, 1992.
Measuring over 900 feet in length and boasting a beam of nearly 150 feet, the Emlain is an impressive sight at sea. Named after former President Amata Kabua's wife, the Emlain was used to freight cargo in the world's oceans from 1989-1991 carrying an assortment of goods in her nine holds. Ships such as the Emlain have been sailing the seas as important links in the world trade for decades. Ore/bulk ships like the Emlain are especially important to countries such as the Republic of the Marshall Islands where air freight is costly and sometimes impractical.

20TH C. PAPUA NEW GUINEA WOOD
20TH C. PAPUA NEW GUINEA WOOD PADDLE W/ CROCODILEThis is an oversized item that may require special shipping. Please inquire for a quote before bidding.
Oceania, Papua New Guinea, Upper Sepik River region, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. This is a gorgeous hand-carved wooden paddle with a fantastic carving on the midrib of the blade and the handle. The grip finial is shaped as an intricate and stylized zoomorphic head - the rounded snout and triangular teeth suggest a crocodile, and the prominent midrib on the petaloid blade is incised with wavy geometric motifs. The rugged terrain of Papua New Guinea means that the easiest form of travel for its native indigenous inhabitants is via dugout canoe, especially in the region around the long inland Sepik River. Both paddles and canoes were highly decorated with symbols of clans and emblems for safety, speed, and success - a crocodile is a fitting creature that embodies power in the water. This is a lovely example with great preservation to both finial and blade, with a nice patina throughout. Size: 6" W x 56" H (15.2 cm x 142.2 cm); 58" H (147.3 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private Newport Beach, California, USA collection
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
