The man's portrait is unsigned, and the woman's portrait is signed "Margaret Dymond" and dated 1845. Each has a vintage label on the back from Scott, Heydon, & Co., London.

Bartlett Arkell (1862-1946) was one of the founders of the Beech-Nut Packing Company, and for fifty years its president.
