British school, ca. 1845 A delicately rendered pair of miniature profile portraits of a man and a woman, pencil on card with white highlighting and hints of color, each approx. 5-1/2" x 4-5/8", framed in gilt period frames under rolled glass overall approx. 6-1/2" x 5-5/8". The man's portrait is unsigned, and the woman's portrait is signed "Margaret Dymond" and dated 1845. Each has a vintage label on the back from Scott, Heydon, & Co., London.

Handwritten label verso reads: "This portrait relined, and new stretchers furnished by Beers Bros., 110 W. 30, NYC, January 1943. Original stretcher preserved in the home of Mrs. Bartlett Arkell, 15 W 10, NYC, William MacBeth, Junr., by RW McIntyre, Pres. 11 E. 57, NYC." Bartlett Arkell (1862-1946) was one of the founders of the Beech-Nut Packing Company, and for fifty years its president.
