17th century British needlework, two figures, soldier with tents in background, woman in court dress in front of buildings, oval panel surrounded by stylized flowers, insects and birds above lion and leopard, silk on silk ground, British, late 17th century, 17 x 21 in. (sight); wood frame. Extensive fading and browning to silk, approximately 1-1/2 x 6 in. area with losses of silk ground and some shattering, losses to embroidered elements, possible pest damage; frame with losses and chips.

Document has been reinforced with two Connecticut Civil War Bonds, somewhat visible through the back of the document. Appr ox. 12-1/4" L x 15-3/8" H. Overall discoloration, tears, ECT. 17TH CENTURY RELIGIOUS PORTRAIT, PRAGUEOil on canvas painting of Joes Cztiborius Kotva. Inscription at bottom states he is a theologian during the time of "Ferdi. II" or Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand II (1619-1637). Painting is set in Bohemia (today Prague, Czech Republic) as the Church of Our Lady before Tyn can be seen over the subject's shoulder. A small suit of armor stands on the table next to a goblet. Well stabilized and relined. Some loss at bottom along with wear and visible repairs. Modern frame with period styling.

Contemporary mottled tan calf with five section spine and tab 'W:Penns Writings' front board repaired at spine. Estimate ?5 000-10 000 William Penn (1644-1718) married Gulielma Springett (1644-1694) in April 1672 in Chorley Wood. They had fourteen children but few survived to adulthood and only the eldest William appears to have had children. The present vendors maternal grandmothers family were the Springetts an important Sussex family. Indeed Gulielma's father has a memorial and is buried in Ringmer parish church. The binding is original however it has been repaired down the right hand fold has a crack running the full length of the spine and is worn on the other fold some chipping here. Old but not original front end papers. Pages at the beginning of the book are browned and with some slight damp marks. As one moves into the book the pages become cleaner and fairly bright. First two pages of Saul 1675 and loose at the bottom. Latter tracts are folded in at end some miss-creasing and small holes. Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports.
