Extensive fading and browning to silk, approximately 1-1/2 x 6 in. area with losses of silk ground and some shattering, losses to embroidered elements, possible pest damage; frame with losses and chips.

Handwritten letter dated December 26, 1758 from Jacob Bettos in Halifax to Mr. Israel Jacob, ___ Reading in Pennsylvania, care of Mose Jman (Iman), Merchant in 2nd Street, Philadelphia. Describes in some detail Bettos involvement in the significant 1758 battle of Louisbourg (Nova Scotia) and his subsequent deployment to the Bay of Fundy under General Robert Monckton. Tears (some with tape), stains and some loss. Typewritten transcription included.
