CANADIAN MAHOGANY LONGCASE CLOCK BY SAVAGEMontreal Canada, circa 1835, the highly figured mahogany case showing a hood with a carved crestrail decorated with brass finials and barley twist columns, over a glazed arched door and glazed side panels (one cracked) fronting a brass face (from the late 1700s, would have been silvered, probably made in Liverpool, England), and chapter ring with Roman numerals and pierced sweep hands, together with its maker's plaque for Savage of Montreal. The eight-day weight driven movement and pendulum remain intact, retaining what appears to be its original pendulum. The mechanism is currently nonfunctioning at the time of cataloguing. It has an automated Scottish soldier who would rock from side to side – currently broken but can be repaired. Measuring 89" high x 20.5" wide x 10.5" deep. George Savage (1767-1845) of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England, immigrated to Montreal, Canada, with his family circa 1818, after working as a silversmith/watchmaker for some years in Yorkshire. All of the clocks bearing his name were purchased from UK manufacturers. FIVE ANTIQUE BOOK SAFES, VARIOUS STYLES Grouping of five different book safes. The first one is double stacked and adhered together to supply some depth and looks to be from late 1700s. Leather bound with marbled overlays, titled "Varlds krigets historia." Secondly is a smaller one dated 1773 on title page for "sermons pour l'avent", brown leather with gilded devices. Thirdly is another period safe dated 1816, titled "Discourses on Several Subjects" with brown mottled calf with gilded cover designs. The fourth did not have any pages dating it but has the outer shell of a book titled "The School on the Hill", covered in dark leather with gilded spine notations with the author being Woodlatch. Lastly is a cigar box safe with a paper overlay on the covers and to imitate the paper pages.
