FIVE ANTIQUE BOOK SAFES, VARIOUS STYLES Grouping of five different book safes. The first one is double stacked and adhered together to supply some depth and looks to be from late 1700s. Leather bound with marbled overlays, titled "Varlds krigets historia." Secondly is a smaller one dated 1773 on title page for "sermons pour l'avent", brown leather with gilded devices. Thirdly is another period safe dated 1816, titled "Discourses on Several Subjects" with brown mottled calf with gilded cover designs. The fourth did not have any pages dating it but has the outer shell of a book titled "The School on the Hill", covered in dark leather with gilded spine notations with the author being Woodlatch. Lastly is a cigar box safe with a paper overlay on the covers and to imitate the paper pages.

Two February 17, 1776, Philadelphia 1/6th of a dollar notes showing both the front and reverse. Next is a state of Georgia note, a 1776 1-shilling. Then a Pennsylvania 5-shilling October 5 1773 note followed a Philadelphia, February 17, 1776, $1 note and ending with a Pennsylvania, 2-shilling, April 3rd, 1772 note.

Considered the most beautiful and innovative British architectural book of the 18th century (Wiebenson Architectural), it was first published in 1778-1779, and was seminal in popularizing neo-classical ideas of interior planning, the Adam Style of ornament.

CORONATION ROBE CHEST. EARLY 19TH CENTURY. Apainted metal chest with a brass nameplate that reads: The Right Hon’ble Earl Amherst. Coronation Robes. The chest has a worn painted surface and painted interior with flaking paint. There is a brass plate in the interior for Wilkinson & Son Tailors and Robe Makers London. The chest is on a fitted iron stand. The chest is 7" by 15" with stand 41 1/4" by 18 1/2". The surface shows some surface rust, pitting, and flaking in interior. The chest was possibly owned by William Pitt Amherst, 1st Earl Amherst, GCH, PC, 1773-1857, Governor General of India. The chest may have been used for the coronation of King William IV in 1831. Wilkinson and Son are said to have specialized in coronation robes and diplomatic attire for every coronation from William IV to George VI.

QING DYNASTY, QIANLONG PERIOD, 1736-1795 ??? ??????????????each finely moulded with the lady wearing an elaborate headdress and colourful costume, playing a string instrument pipa on a piebald horse, all upon a rectangular base(2)heights: 22.1cm and 22.4cmProvenance: Private collection, London; acquired from Galerie Nicolas Fournery, Paris, one with a circular label from the gallery and hand-written number 'D311' on the underbelly of the horseNote: Wang Zhaojun, also known as Wang Qiang, was known asone of the Four Beauties ofancient China.She was sent by the Han dynasty Emperor Yuan to marry the Xiongnu nomad chieftain Huhanyein an attempt to promote peace and stability between the two courts. The present figures depict an occurrence in Wang's journey north across the steppe, when the beauty of her voice caused a flock of geese to forget to flap their wings and fall to the ground; hence she is also known as 'falling wild goose'. Her image, holding a pipa whilst riding on a horse (see image 1) similar to the present examples, was depicted on a woodblock print book Li Chao Ming Yuan Shi Ci ?????? published in the thirty-eighth year of Qianlong reign, corresponding to 1773AD. A closely comparable example of similar design and colour palette was sold at the Guest & Gray Gallery, London, Ref: Y913.

LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA WALNUT TALL CASE CLOCKLancaster, Pennsylvania walnut tall case clock, ca. 1770, the broken arch bonnet with applied scroll carving enclosing an eight-day movement with floral engraved brass dial with central bird inscribed Wilmer Atkinson & Sons, the waist with blind fret carving over a serpentine top door centered by fluted quarter columns, all resting on ogee feet, 88 1/4" h. In tax records, Wilmer was listed in 1770 as a watchmaker and in 1772 and 1773 as a clockmaker. He married Anna Maria, daughter of the early borough clockmaker Abram Laroy. Legend states that Anna Maria also made clocks in Lancaster that were sold bearing her husband's name. A Wilton Atkinson clock is in the Lancaster Heritage Center collection, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Provenance: A Williamsport, Pennsylvania collection.
