Provenance: Obtained from direct descendant of Spanish arms dealer Juan De Miralles, a friend of George Washington's(Miralles died in Washington's camp). Possibly kept as a memorial of Miralles, as the note is dated the day before Miralles died (April 28, 1780). Miralles was the consignor's fourth great-grandfather. PMG graded. FORTY-TWO (42) STATE OF MASSACHUSETTS-BAYFORTY-TWO (42) STATE OF MASSACHUSETTS-BAY REVOLUTIONARY WAR NOTES Printed by Hall & Sellers of Philadelphia in 1780, these circulating notes were redeemable in Spanish milled silver dollars and could earn 5% interest every year through 1786. Each of the notes present have been redeemed and cancelled with a punch. Denominations include: Two Dollars (13 notes); Four Dollars (7 notes); Five Dollars (1 note); Seven Dollars (10 notes); Eight Dollars (7 notes); Twenty Dollars (4 notes). Of particular interest are the obverse signatures found on each note. Signers variously include Loammi Baldwin. Richard Cranch, Thomas Dawes, E. Wales, and S. Henshaw; verso endorsements are by Nathaniel Appleton, Peter Boyer, Joseph Henderson and Thomas Walley.
