Johnstone London and wirebound shagreen grip with a gilt metal dress sword with 26 inch blade Estimate ?200-300 Officers sword - curved blade has light layer of tarnishing throughout with odd little pitting some nicks along the blade edge and slight wear at tip signed J B Johnstone London and Dublin expected rubbed appearance to pommel and guard some knocks to the edges slightly depressed on one edge some chipping to shagreen grip here and there with some discolouration scabbard not in good order with cracks and weakened over a 6 inch section in the centre. Dress sword has heavy rubbing to the gilded surface throughout poor condition to the leather on the scabbard with a crease there also blade with light tarnishing and some small pitting. Reputedly a Confederate import by Isaac & Son London. 41''l. overall. Black scabbard - old repaint some flaking pretty good shape. Sword very wavy with hard dog-leg to right. Grip worn smooth. No marks numbers or letters. Brown scabbard - rusted hole in bottom. No marks. Sword has no marks and replaced wood handle.
