MODEL 1842 SPRINGFIELD PERCUSSION MUSKETM1842 Springfield percussion smoothbore musket in .69 caliber. Barrel measures approx. 37 1/4", 52 3/4" overall. Right side plate is marked "SPRING/FIELD/1842". Butt plate is marked "US". First seeing usage during the Mexican-American War, M184re on hand at the beginning of the Civil War and used by both Confederate and Federal or Union soldiers. . Trigger and hammer action works. Barrel and finish has an overall brown patina with some pitting near the cap/nipple hole. Half stock has ageappropriate wear including some hairline cracks, small chips and old repairs.
