Horsier: circa 1860, officer's sabre, 32" blade, T. Horsier Solingen, proved, marked on the ricasso of this imported sword. The blade iron proof etched with "U.S." within a floral panel, the opposite side etched with eagle and shield with patriotic banner. Iron hilt and scabbard, the later engraved with what appears to be a period inscription "Presented to Lt. Matthew Hardie by the men of Tx 28th Cav Co E" in four line inscription. Very good overall. Together with a brown leather scabbard, unmarked. The blade is discolored in several places and shows wear, as does the handle. The leather scabbard is cracked, flaking, and separating from the brass tip. Blade 30" long, 36 3/4" long overall in the scabbard. ESTIMATE $400-600
