Colt Model 1849 Pocket Model .31 cal. 4'' octagonal barrel S/N 186686. All matching numbers two-line Hartford address walnut grips. Condition: Barrel retains 50% of the bright original blue finish just thinning and off of the high edges. Loading lever retains 40% of the original case colors turning to a dark brown. Frame retains traces of case colors turning brown. Cylinder scene is sharp and crisp with light patina brown appearance. Grips retain most of the original varnish with some wear on the sharp edges and some nicks and dings.

COLT MODEL 1849 POCKET REVOLVER. .31 caliber six-shot cylinder with engraved stagecoach scene 4'' octagonal barrel with one-line New York address and walnut grips. S/n 241155. With period/original flap holster. According to tradition this gun descended in the Long family of Terra Alta West Virginia. Only a few traces of bluing mostly with mottled gray patina scattered oxidation dings and dents mostly to the cylinder and to the wedge bore with some pitting action good marks clear cylinder scene still visible but faint in some areas. Manufactured 1863.

L.; five shot cylinder; nickel-plated brass trigger guard and strap; walnut grips; overall length - 8 7/8 in. Estimate $ 300-500 Trigger sping weak. Iron parts with browning and very light pitting. Engraving on cylinder faint.

COLT MODEL 1849 POCKET REVOLVER. .31 caliber five-shot cylinder with engraved stagecoach scene 5'' octagonal barrel with two-line New York address walnut grips. S/n 124279. Scratch-carved into the butt is ''Plater'' and either ''90'' or possibly a partially worn ''186_''. There are twenty-one Platers who served in the Union Army. Mottled patina with moderate oxidation action a little stiff nicks and dings grip varnish wearing off bore with pitting retains better than 80% of the silvering on the straps and trigger guard. Manufactured 1856.

Engraved on the back strap is ''To. G.G. Allen.'' Several George G. Allens and a Gaston G. Allen were found in Civil War records. About 10% blue on the barrel else a mottled gray patina action a little stiff grips probalby cleaned or refinished marks generally crisp cylinder scene clear some silver remains on the trigger guard. Manufactured 1861.

ID'D COLT MODEL 1849 POCKET REVOLVER. .31 caliber five-shot cylinder with engraved stagecoach scene 4'' octagonal barrel with two-line New York address walnut grips. S/n 170248. Engraved on the back strap is ''J.H.W.'' and on the butt strap is ''12th O.V.C.'' John H. Witherell enlisted in the 12th Ohio Cavalry in the fall of 1863. The 12th Ohio Cavalry spent most of its service in Kentucky and Tennessee. Bright gray patina with scattered light oxidation action smooth bore with some oxidation engraved scene and marks worn but visible. Manufactured 1860.

ID'D COLT MODEL 1849 POCKET REVOLVER. .31 caliber six-shot cylinder with engraved stagecoach scene 5'' octagonal barrel with one-line New York address walnut grips. S/n 207822. The backstrap is engraved ''Geo. W. Little. Pittsburgh Pa.'' Little joined Company F (Hampton's Independent Company) of the Pennsylvania Light Artillery in August 1862. Company F put in three years of impressive service seeing action at Bull Run Antietam and Chancellorsville. Little mustered out in late May 1865. Dark almost chocolate brown patina with scattered light oxidation bore with some oxidation and one side with dents action a little stiff refinished/cleaned grips clear marks cylinder scene visible traces of silvering on the trigger guard. Manufactured 1862.

Two-line New York barrel address with seraph brackets; brass backstrap and triggerguard; walnut grips. Condition: Barrel has a soft brown patina. Frame is grey-to-brown with some light pitting. Cylinder is grey with some pitting and the cylinder scene is very dim. Wedge is a replacement. Grips have some varnish with some nicks and dings; some scuffing.

Cased Model 1849 Colt Percussion
Cased Model 1849 Colt Percussion Revolver .31 caliber 4'' barrel with single-line New York address S/N 188744. Five-shot all numbers match silver-plated backstrap and triggerguard. One-piece walnut grips. Mahogany wood case with red velvet lining eagle shield flask mold and key for the case. Condition: Case is excellent. Lining has some wear where the pistol was lying leaving the cylinder and barrel imprint. Flask is almost mint with all of the blue on the spring and a very tiny dint still retains most of the original applied lacquer. Mold retains 95% of the original blue finish with just a little brown flaking on the sprue cutter. Barrel retains 98% of the original blue finish; cylinder retains 90+ of the original blue finish losing a little on the front edge and on the shoulders of the cylinder. Retaining 100% of the cylinder scene. Loading lever has 98% of the original case colors frame retains 95% of the original case colors losing a little on the edges of the recoil shield. Backstrap and triggerguard retain 96% of the original silver-plated finish with just a little brass popping through on the edges. Walnut grips retain 100% of the varnished finish with couple very minute dents. This is a very strong case 4'' 1849 pocket Colt.

S/n 72228. Retains 75-80% of original nickel plating with sharp clear marks original finish on the grips minor dings and dents action smooth but the hammer will not stay cocked. The wedge has the matching s/n to the rest of the gun but also the number 2811.

ID'D COLT MODEL 1849 POCKET REVOLVER. .31 caliber six-shot cylinder with engraved stagecoach scene 6'' octagonal barrel with one-line New York address walnut grips. S/n 196737. The butt strap is engraved ''Lieut. Geo. Ballou'' and the backstrap is engraved ''89th Regt N.Y.V.'' Ballou enlisted in December 1861 but was dismissed in mid 1862 due to a disability. He re-enlisted in August of 1862 in the 114th New York. The company served in the Gulf Region and Ballou was wounded at Bisland Louisiana on April 14 1863 and died of his wounds two months later. Gray patina with scattered light oxidation dents around the cylinder wedge s/n does not match bore is clean action is sticky. Manufactured 1861.

The backstrap is engraved ''W.B. Palmer.'' Research has identified a number of W.B. Palmers in active Civil War service. Gray overall patina with some brown mottling action a little stiff bore with some oxidation marks clear engraved scene quite visible. Manufactured 1861. Given that most of Mr. Romanoff's identified arms were from Pennsylvania boys the most likely candidate given the scant information we have would be William B. Palmer of the 192nd PA Infantry.

Condition: All metal is sharp and crisp with excellent markings. Metal is a grey to brown smooth with some areas of light staining. Backstrap and triggerguard retain most of the original silver-plated finish. Walnut grips are good with some wear around the sharp edges.
