AMES M1832 ARTILLERY SHORT SWORD WITH SCABBARDMexican–American War era, Ames model 1832 foot artillery short sword and scabbard. Ricasso is marked with an eagle above N.P. Ames Cabotville on one side, and US 1846 N.W.P. on the other. The brass guard is stamped WAT on one side and NWP on the other side. The pommel has an eagle on each side. Double edged blade is 19" long. Leather scabbard is good with some cracking to the finish and small areas of loss. THREE US MILITARY SWORDS, 1872, 1902, & 1906 Three US military swords comprising, a Springfield National Armory, 1872 pattern, Peterson #86 Indian Wars officer?s dress sabre, having a gilded hilt with a leafed cap, shield and leafed wreath on the pommel, a shagreen grip, and eagle and 13 stars guard stamped s. w. p., with a floral and figural embellished blade; a named Iver Johnson Co. (American), model 1902 officer?s dress sword with scabbard, the blade decorated with etched florals and patriotic symbols including cannons and flags, inscribed for William Montgomery; and an Ames (American), model 1906 officer?s sabre, with steel hilt, leather grip with wire wrapping, and chromed blade stamped with the markings "A. S. Co.," for the Ames Sword company, a flaming bomb, and "1906" on one side of the ricasso, and "US/J. H. C", 27 and g64 on the other, the JHC likely indicates the inspector who approved the sword. Approximate measurements: First, blade l. 33. 75", overall l. 39'; second, blade l. 29. 75", overall l. 35. 25", in scabbard l. 36. 75"; third, blade l. 35", overall l. 41".

AMES M1840 PRESENTATION SWORD, GEO. B. COOK Ames Model 1840 "off to war" presentation sword, presented to Union soldier, George B Cook, the sword is inscribed "Presented to 1st Lieutenant George B. Cook, co II, 4th regiment Conn. volunteer, by friends at home, New London (Conn) June, 1861", having a shagreen and wire wrapped handle with a knight head pommel, acanthus leaf stamped collar, on top of two cast eagles with spread wings and shields below, the blade etched on both sides with period designs, including florals, acanthus, and patriotic symbols, as well as an eagle with spread wings holding an olive branch and arrows, below 12 stars and 15 rays, together with the original ornately mounted scabbard. Note: George B. Cook enlisted and was mustered into the first regiment, Connecticut volunteers, heavy artillery on May 22, 1861 as a First Lieutenant, he was promoted to Captain on November 8, 1861; and Major on January 22, 1863, he mustered out on May 4, 1865.
