French Model 1866 Chassepot Military Rifle With Bayonet Lot of Two The Chassepot officially known as Fusil mod??le 1866 was a bolt action military breechloading rifle famous as the arm of the French forces in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 and 1871. The bayonet with this rifle is the model 1874 Gras bayonet. Condition: Very good overall and very good bore.

FRENCH CHASSEPOT BAYONET, DATED 1871A French Chassepot M1866 bayonet, mounts to the Gra’s 11mm round rifle. Named after Antoine Alphonse Chassepot (1833-1905), a French sword maker. Used widely between 1861-1911. Very good condition with inscribed dedication on the back of the blade, and dated 1871. No. 88501. Overall length, 27.5".

French Chassepot Model 1866 Bayonets Lot of Two These bayonets are brass-hilted with a 22.75" blade spring steel latching arrangement on the right side. The crossguard is iron (steel) and has a screw-type tightening arrangement on the muzzle-ring. The lower quillon is a hooked "blade-breaker" type. The blade is steel single-edged fullered (both sides) with a re-curved or "yataghan style." The blades are usually marked on the back-edge (opposite the cutting edge) with the arsenal month and year of manufacture; these examples are marked St. Etienne 1869 and 1873; the 1873 is matching. Condition: Very good. Some rust but will clean.

Remarkable Sixth Plate
Remarkable Sixth Plate Daguerreotype of a Heavily Armed Trapper Anonymous sixth plate daguerreotype of a trapper or hunter striking a resolute pose. Dressed for winter he wears a heavy wooljacket and fur cap. He displays a full stock percussion rifle for the camera and is further outfitted with Colt model 1849 pocket revolver knife belt axe powder horn and fine leather hunting pouch. Strapped to his back is a large bundle of furs or fur-wrapped bedroll. Housed in a full leather case separated at the spine. Found recently in North Carolina. A stunning image. Condition: Solarization at mat edges. Two small circles of discoloration centered on the gold tinting on the buckles of the trapper's belt and strap.

Brass buttplate with fleur de lis on top of buttplate; brass triggerguard with fleur de lis on the forward part. Brass bands and sideplate.?Walnut stock. Condition: Barrel is very sharp and crisp with a light patina on the top of the barrel.? Lock with sharp and crisp with light patina.? Stock has nice opened grained look with a sharp and crisp cartouche and still retaining all of the original oiled finish.? Brass with a nice sheen.? Original ramrod.? A very rare variation of the 1816 French Garde de Corps musket.?Overall condition is excellent.

Case colored lock marked with an eagle and U.S. Springfield and dated 1864. ?Walnut stock?with a oval cartouche of HCH.? Condition: Barrel is bright with some very light staining.??Breechblock retains most of the blackened finish. Lockplate?and hammer retain most of the case coloring just slightly faded. ?Stock is excellent with nice cartouche and open-grained look.

Surviving records were held by Joseph Brazie of Brewood Staffordshire until 1996 when they were passed to David Perkins of Charles Lancaster & Co. Ltd. The RFirs Bishopswood Somerset TA20 3RU Tel/Fax 011 44 01460 234254. Fine. Barrels retain a wonderful light brown restored finish. Receiver and appended metal retain traces of case colors being mostly a worn silver/gray patina. Stock with its slightly chipped toe is otherwise sound and retains generous amount of an old restored finish with a large smooth depression on right side of buttstock with other small handling marks. Right ejector is not functioning otherwise mechanics are fine bright shiny bores with scattered pitting. French Flintlock Pistol .60 caliber bore dia 6.5'' cannon style barrel lockplate marked Dauphine Bergerac in two lines ca 1770. Iron furniture triggerguard with acorn finial with raised carving around furniture. Walnut stock. Condition: All metal is grey with some staining and pitting. Flintlock hammer is broken. And can be restore. The broken part is there. Walnut stock has darkened with some nicks and dings. Nice sharp pistol overall.
