COLT MODEL 1911 .45 NATIONAL MATCH US ARMY PISTOLFeatured in this lot we have a Colt Model 1911 National Match U.S. Army semi automatic pistol chambered in .45 Auto. This pistol was manufactured in 1918 by Colt for the first World War. The pistol features wonderful hand stippled trench art across the front of the grip with a Fancy T at the center. The Model 1911 is one of the most recognizable and well known American pistols and is still in production today. This early 1911 features a 5" long round barrel, checkered wooden grips, steel frame, and adjustable rear sight. The top of the barrel is marked ".45 Auto N M 7791414". The side of the slide is marked "Model of 1911. U.S. Army" on the right and PATENTED APR. 20. 1897. SEPT. 9. 1902 DEC. 19. 1905. FEB. 14. 1911. AUG. 19. 1913 COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A." on the left. The back of the slide is stamped with the rearing Colt horse on the left with a "GSH" stamped on the frame on the left with the serial number on the right. The pistol shows wonderful working condition with a smooth action, crisp trigger, and grip safety. The pistol shows good condition overall with some light wear and loss of the finish on the back of the slide. The pistol weights 2lbs 6oz. Serial Number: 219517. James Joseph Igoe Charleston South Carolina. Other Notes: Lt. James Joseph Igoe (1859-1919) served in the Spanish American War and was Captain of the USS Celtic which was the largest contingent of the South Carolina Navy Militia. Under his direction the vessel supplied forces in American and Cuban waters and sailed around Cape Horn for operations in the Philippine Islands. He and his family settled in Charleston South Carolina and he constructed a house at 9 New St. For a period of time he served as the Harbor Commissioner. He was married to Caroline Florence Humphry and together they had several children.
