NEW YORK DOCUMENTS, 1756-1809Three documents, including the last will and testament of Tobias Ashfield (1756), an indenture to apprentice under a baker by Ashfield's son (1770) and court summons from 1809, signed by the sheriff of New York, Benjamin Ferris. The papers all have unmended splits.
Provenance: Obtained directly from a collection of historical paper items -- from the Ashfield, Skaats and McNeal families of New York -- none of which has ever been offered for sale. Several lots of these papers, including historically important pieces, are being offered in today's auction. The family, represented in several of the items in the collection, owned land directly adjacent to Wall Street, and some of the pieces refer to these parcels.

Shryart who goes on to say that the bearer of this instrument his son also has documents which prove the land was purchased and paid for and now they would like to have the title which they had not received before the seller William Bouseman died. Condition: Water stained and toned. With expected folds. Main vertical fold partially separated. Long edge of back scuffed and frayed but this does not affect any text.
