Tall-case clock c. 1907 weight-driven time and strike European movement American mahogany with intricate lion carving ornately fashioned brass and silvered dial with Arabic numerals and intricate brass tracery black fancy hands and hand painted phases of the moon dial with arch toped glazed door flanked by wood tracery carving backed by green silk panels on sides and fluted spandrels with Corinthian capitals beveled glass trunk door revealing brass pendulum and handsome green silk case interior beveled glass sides large crack to face of trunk date dial needs repair 8' 8'' h. x 27'' w. x 21'' d. (Provenance: The clock was a gift from various statesmen including US. Senator Morgan G. MASSIVE PRE 1850 FIGURAL MANTLE CLOCK 7 ½" thick x 14 ½" wide x 25" tall;l A 4 ¼" white enamel dial with Roman Numerals for all chapters, with all minute hash marks on a continuous circle at the dials edge. Blued steel Renaissance style minute/hour hands. Beveled glass crystal on front and domed glass on the back cover. An 80 mm japy style half and hour strike type, silk suspension movement is utilized. A bronze gilt philosopher with a tome in contemplation rests on top of a black slate base, decorated with a gilt border and heavy scroll feet. Weighs 45 lbs. Movement stamped Raingo-Freres.
