AFTER E. A. AIZELIN "NYMPHE DE DIANE" MARBLE,19 C. After Eugene-Antoine Aizelin (French, 1821-1902), Marble Sculpture, depicting an attendant of goddess Diana, last quarter nineteenth century, signed "E. Aizelin" and "F. Barbedienne / Editeur" to base, inscribed "Nymphe de Diane" to front. Previous restoration work to raised finger. 30" H x 12.5" W x 9" D.

Notes: Aizelin studied under Augustin-Alexandre Dumont (French, 1801-1884) and exhibited regularly at the Salon between 1852 and 1897. He won a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle of 1889 and in 1867 made a Chevalier of the Legion d'Honneur. The original model for the "Nymphe de Diane" was exhibited at the Salon of 1885 (No. 3276) and later released in editions in bronze and marble by Ferdinand Barbedienne. Another marble example of this work was sold, Sotheby's, New York: The Private Collection of Lionel Hastings: 19th and 20th Century Sculpture and Furniture, 14 April 2008, lot 30.
