STEUBEN SOLID GLASS BALL
STEUBEN SOLID GLASS BALL LUMINORDESCRIPTION: Steuben solid glass ball luminor with controlled bubble design on a black glass electrified base.
Solid lead glass with controlled bubbles.
Signed on the bottom with block letters "STEUBEN"
Reference:
Shape # 6821, p. 208 Paul V. Gardner.
Pictured at Ill. 104, p. 69 of Paul V. Gardners, The Glass of Frederick Carder bubbles in glass have long annoyed glass makers striving for clear, flawless glass. Carder loved bubbles--he said they gave life to the metal, and he often used them decoratively either in controlled designs(Ill 104) or random arrangements(Ills. 105, 106).
In Collectors Choice Review, Number 29 by The Rockwell Museum, it states:
Carder was quick to respond, and around 1928 he introduced Steuben's luminors. He created variations using the basic shapes of a round ball and a pineapple. The gaffer would place a gather of glass in a nail mold, whose interior projections created a pattern of indentations on the surface. A subsequent gather of glass would trap air bubbles. Each luminor came equipped with a base in the form of a square black block with a low wattage bulb inside. A hole in the top of the glass base allowed the light to shine upward, illuminating the ball or pineapple. Special effects were achieved by placing colored half discs in such a way as to light the luminor in an array of colors.
In American Art Nouveau Glass by Albert Christian Revi at. P. 177 the author states:
Bubble-balls, large and small, were produced at Steuben. Some have large air-blebs included as part of the interior decoration. These were made in the 1930s and l9140s, and were sometimes mounted on metal or glass bases to be used as Luminors.
Also, see Fig. 363 p. 178 showing a crystal bubble-ball lamp on heavy brass base, a part of the authors collection.
Shown in Steuben's 1932 catalogue, p. 15 as Luminor Ball (5 large bubbles in bottom) crystal with black base ball only, retail $15.00.

STEVE FERGUSON (B. 1946) "B-47E STRATOJET"Steve Ferguson (American, B. 1946) "B-47E Stratojet" Signed lower left. Original Acrylic painting on Illustration Board.
Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation.
This painting was originally published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the U.S. 32c Stratojet Classic Collection Series stamp issued July 19, 1997.
Powered by six engines, the world's first swept-wing jet bomber, the B-47 Stratojet, made its debut in 1947. The plane boasted a top speed of over 550 mph -- faster than most fighters of that time. Compared to the B-29 bomber, which required a 10-man crew, the Stratojet needed only a pilot, co-pilot and bombardier/navigator. On September 1, 1953, the USAF carried out the first in-flight refueling of one jet by another, using a tanker derived from a B-47 to refuel another B-47. By 1956, 2,032 Stratojets had been delivered to the USAF. Of these, 1,373 were manufactured by Boeing, the other 659 by Douglas and Lockheed. The venerable bombers served America faithfully for 20 years.

- We recommend looking into shipping quotes prior to bidding, shipping quotes can take up to a week or more post-sale as we host our auctions through multiple online platforms and shipping can become backlogged, if you would like a list of local shippers please email us directly.
- Our auction catalogs are hosted through multiple online platforms along with phone and in-house bidding. Bids placed on other platforms are not shown through this catalog. Because of this, even if it appears you are the only absentee bid or bidder on a lot, you may already be outbid or may have placed a bid equal to another bidder. Therefore, we always recommend bidding live.
- Unless otherwise stated in the description, all items are sold without additional documentation or COAs. If any supporting documentation is available an image will be available online via the catalog listing.
