FINE ANCIENT ANATOLIAN COPPER
FINE ANCIENT ANATOLIAN COPPER BULLAncient Near East, Anatolia, ca. late 2nd millennium BCE. An attractive cast-copper bull, a symbol of both fertility and virility in the ancient world. The slender, elongated body of the figurine stands atop four legs with tapered hooves, and a long tail draping behind. The minimalist visage features a pointed snout with a petite pair of ears just below prominent curved horns projecting from the top of his head. 2 ANCIENT LEVANTINE & CANAANITE
2 ANCIENT LEVANTINE & CANAANITE BRONZE FIGURESAncient Near East, The Levant or Anatolia, ca. 2nd millennium BCE; The Levant, Canaan, Middle Bronze Age, ca. 1900 to 1550 BCE. A great selection of two cast-bronze figures of characteristically stylized and abstracted forms, each covered in fine layers of patina. The first figure is Levantine or Anatolian in origin and features a slender body with a tapered, edge-shaped base, a pair of nubbin arms, a spade-shaped head with a conical brow, and ringlets within each eye. A length of wire is wrapped around the neck with a petite central pendant. The second figure is Canaanite in origin and depicts a seated figure - perhaps the deities Baal or Moloch - with outstretched arms and a pair of horns projecting from his head. An integral tenon beneath the verso suggests this figure was set into a larger scene, perhaps with additional figures. Size of largest (Canaanite): 1" W x 2.68" H (2.5 cm x 6.8 cm)
Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

NAZCA POLYCHROME VESSEL MYTHICAL
NAZCA POLYCHROME VESSEL MYTHICAL BEINGS & TROPHY HEADSPre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 100 BCE to 700 CE. An exemplary hand-built pottery vessel intricately painted with mythical beings and trophy heads. The body rests on a rounded base with gently carinated sides, a broad shoulder, and a flattened top with a pair of spouts and strap handle. Nearly the entire surface is painted with a register of trophy heads below 2 stylized Anthropomorphic Mythical Beings, also referred to as AMB, flying about the upper shoulder in hues of russet red, black, brown, and gray atop a cream ground. Size: 7.96" Diameter x 8.5" H (20.2 cm x 21.6 cm)
"Anthropomorphic Mythical Beings" can be interpreted as underworld deities or demons; often comprised of spiraling tails, trophy heads, and leering humanoid yet feline-esque or animalistic features. Often, they hold trophy heads or weapons - here their clawed hands both hold clubs. The taking and displaying of heads from battle was a common activity among ancient Peruvian cultures, and might seem macabre to us, but represented strength and fighting prowess. The heads were often worn on belts as ornamentation or displayed in the homes of the victor.
