The sights are a front, red-painted fixed blade with a fully-adjustable square U-notch rear.   Colt Model 1860 Army Percussion Revolver .44 cal. 8'' round barrel S/N 132792. Iron backstrap brass triggerguard sub-inspectors' marks on the cylinder backstrap barrel triggerguard. All numbers match except the wedge which is unnumbered. One-piece walnut grips. Condition: All markings are sharp and crisp. Revolver appears to be an old arsenal refinish with a blued frame. Cylinder frame backstrap and barrel show some iridescence of blue bleeding through the brown patina. Nice untouched patina on the triggerguard. Grips are nice and untouched with some nicks and dings.

The hammer has been bobbed for double-action only and ease of concealed carry. It retains ca 95% original blue finish with most wear on the high edges of the cylinder.

  SMITH & WESSON 38 FIRST MODEL TOP BREAK REVOLVERSmith and Wesson 38 Safety Hammerless 1st model new departure top-break 5 shot revolver. Serial #4618, .38 S&W, scarce 5" barrel with a lightly oxidized and pitted bore. This excellent "Z-bar" revolver retains about 90% plus original nickel plate with scattered light oxidation blemishes, pitting and handling marks with evidence of limited light cleaning. The trigger guard retains about 50% blue finish with light handling wear, freckling and pitting. The hammer has beautiful case-hardened colors with light operational wear and the face worn to pewter. The diamond checkered hard rubber grips rate excellent but are not numbered to the gun (#24783). The frame to barrel fit has slight play but the gun is mechanically functional. All appropriate parts are correctly numbered to the gun. This is a very fine example of the limited production first model with scarce five inch barrel. See photos for more details on condition.
