BRITISH CIVIL SECOND CLASS COATEE, CIRCA 1856A British civil Second Class coatee worn by Lieutenant Governors, Chief Justices of Colonial Supreme Courts, and other senior officials throughout the British Empire. Uniform is medium size (approx. 38 shoulders) and in good condition with minor oxidation to the gold wire embroidery. Silk white lining has tears near the collar, and down the centre of the back; the velour is also worn around some of the embroidery. Two moth holes (quite small) on the front of the tailcoat. Please keep in mind this garment is 160 years old. The buttons are marked "FIRMIN & SONS 153 STRAND LONDON & 13 CONDUIT STREET" which dates this to 1856-1860.
