19TH C. AFRICAN AMERICAN DOLL PRINTED FACE HUMAN HAIRUnited States, late 1800s to early 1920s. A handmade, cloth doll representing a young African-American boy with a realistic visage presenting a sweet expression, crowned by natural, curly hair - as well as a firmly stuffed body with long black limbs that move freely. He wears a white cotton shirt of a 19th century style as well as a red band and a strand of black and white glass beads with several danglers around his neck. Note that the face was printed on cloth, a practice that dates the doll from the late 1800s to the early 1920s. It is quite rare to find an example like this!
