Patriotic Civil War-Period Banjo 33.5 in. overall no maker's mark one piece dark wood neck and headstock wooden pot with brass rim skin head. Rim adorned with 16 decorative hooks each depicting an American eagle grasping the Union Forever banner.?Lacking bridge strings tuner and tailpiece. This instrument is similar to those seen in Civil War images.AUCTIONEER'S NOTE: It has been called to our attention that this banjo was probably produced after the Civil War ca 1870s-1880s.? Condition: Expected wear including some wear to fretboard with some nicks and scratches.?

Feb. 7, 1899) and Dortha Ella Wallace (b. Jan. 27, 1900) were married by 1920.

Although the earliest Bacon banjos were produced by various makers for Bacon from 1906-1920, the company's most famous era began in 1922 when David Day left the Vega company to partner with Fred Bacon who had begun crafting his instruments in-house in 1920.
