TRANTER REVOLVER, SIDE ARM OF LT.
TRANTER REVOLVER, SIDE ARM OF LT. COLONEL HENRY CLAY YE...Tranter Revolver, .44 caliber, serial number No. 12959 T, Side Arm of Lt. Colonel Henry Clay Yeatman, cased with accoutrements. Checkered English walnut stocks, no visible cracks, complete and intact. Safety is present, bore is dark. Name of retailer stamped on top of barrel "R. S. GARDEN. 29 PICCADILLY. LONDON". Barrel length - 6". Housed in original English leather box with Robert S. Garden label inside of lid. Inside of box lined with brown velvet and partitioned to hold tin of Tranter patented lubricating bullets, cleaning rod and nipple wrench, and unmarked bag flask. Box - 2 3/4" H x 14" W x 7" D. Included is a copy of "North South Trader" Vol. XI, No. 2, Jan-Feb 1984, with article by Ted P. Yeatman in which he discusses the Tranter Revolver's history. The revolver was used during the Civil War by Lt. Colonel Henry Clay Yeatman, his great-grandfather. Article on pages 25-26. Provenance: The estate of Jean A. Yeatman and Harry C. Condition:
Mechanically good. Some screw heads turned, screw head on left side of frame beneath cylinder turned out and needs to be reseated. Cylinder pin retention screw missing. Finish approximately 40% blue. Balance fading to a brown patina, surface uncleaned. Latch on box broken. Wear on exterior and interior of box to be expected from age.

TRANTER'S PATENT DOUBLE-ACTION REVOLVER. .36 caliber five-shot cylinder 4 1/2'' octagonal barrel engraved and blued frame checkered walnut grips. S/n 21319T. Prior to the Civil War Tranter had been exporting their revolvers to the United States via its agent in New Orleans. After the outbreak of the war the Confederate government began importing these revolvers for military use. Some blueing left with some light corrosion; dings and dents mostly at the breech end of the barrel. There is only one visible serial number. The mechanics are working.

ENGRAVED AND CASED TRANTER PATENT REVOLVER. Marked for Edwards and Sons Devonport and Plymouth England. .36 caliber five-shot cylinder 3 1/2'' octagonal barrel checkered walnut grips. S/n 92661. In a mahogany case with the paper label of William Griffiths Manchester. Gun is actually .34 caliber. Moderate oxidation bore with some oxidation action not reliable case is missing its lock.

Frizzen spring with nice finial. Iron buttplate triggerguard and ferules. Very nicely carved stock with silver wire inlay. Condition: This a very sharp and crisp untouched pistol. Barrel with nice untouched brown patina silver has blackened. Stock is very sharp and crisp with nice untouched dark red-to-brown patina.

The thick solid steel receiver and barrel can handle "hot" loads, enabling the launcher to propel grenades over longer distances than was usual for its day. Hardwood stock with rubber shoulder pad, and front and rear sights. The reddish color of the receiver is standard factory finish. Fine condition, with minor wear. Barrel 14" long, 29-1/2" overall.
