Harold Altman (American 1924-2003) "Figures and Awnings II". Aquatint on paper signed in pencil lower right titled lower center margin and "Edition 65" lower left. Altman who was born in New York in 1924 is best known for his etchings and lithographs. His subjects are figures in landscapes focusing on soft and serene scenes connecting people to nature. This early and rare etching is rather dark depicting four figures walking away from awnings. The image itself measures apprx 23" x 18-1/4" overall with glass and frame apprx. 36" x 29-1/2".

Proofs could be obtained through no other channel. Overall 11.5'' x 14'', 6.875'' x 8.875'' plate size on deckled paper and sold with society presentation mat and tissue. Signed RL in plate and graphite signed Robert Lawson, imp. lower right margin.; Also included in this lot Lester B. Hornsby's Etching ''Palais du Justice in the Rain'' showing the conciergerie where Marie Antoinette was imprisoned just behind the Palais. This is the 11th presentation print, 1 of only 250 produced in 1920, with the plate being printed on English handmade paper and bears the Seal of The Chicago Society of Etchers lower left and graphite signed lower right L.G. Hornsby. Copies only were available through associate membership in the Chicago Society of Etchers. 12.125''h x 8.625'' overall, 7.75''h x 6'' plate size. Sold with society presentation mat and tissue. Provenance: Estate of the Artist Ernest Roth, an early member of the society.
