AMERICAN ENCAUSTIC TILING COMPANY, A GROUPING OF TEN MAJOLICA TILE WORKS Late 19th century, glazed ceramic bas relief tiles, each with embossed mark to verso, to include: one framed tile plaque depicting a mother and children in an interior (frame dimensions 11 3/4 x 23 1/2 in.); a pair Renaissance style portraits in a vibrant earth green glaze and gilt border decoration, posterior mount for display (6 1/4 x 6 in.); framed scenic tile of nesting birds (frame dimensions 7 7/8 x 7 7/8 in.); unframed tile depicting the Greek goddess Artemis (6 x 6 in.); one small unframed AETC dedication tile dated April 19th, 1892 (4 1/4 x 4 1/4 in.); (4) pastoral vignettes, one with frame, one marked (frame dimensions 7 7/8 x 7 7/8 in.; unframed 6 x 6 in.).

UNUSUAL AMERICAN TILE TOP TABLE The top inset with individual tiles depicting a ponds surface raised on two metal pedestals; 30 3/4 x 6 ft. 2 1/2 in. x 32 in. Provenance: Estate of Floriano Vecchi. He was an Italian born artist printer and publisher in Greenwich Village. He printed and published the works of many second generation abstract expressionist like Alfred Leslie Helen Frankenthaler Georgia O'Keeffe Paul Cadmus and many others. One could imagine the conversations drinking and smoking that went on until the wee hours with some of the greatest 20th c. artists.
