Printed on Rives watermarked paper.Benton's comments in Fath read: This is a study, from the mirror image of an old artist, 'grandaddy Benton' as all the kids call me. It hasn't come back.Image measures 19.5 x 13.75, sheet is 24.75 x 18.5 inches.Very good condition, the full untrimmed sheet with four deckle edges, not laid down, no damage, punctures, tears or repair; a faint mat burn surrounds the image, tape residue on the upper edge as shown, presents very well framed and matted.Provenance: Private collection, Des Moines, Iowa.

Our shepherd dog Jake impersonated the wolf in this Red Riding Hood theme. The area depicted is in our wood lot on Martha's Vineyard and shows a path leading to my mother's place there. Trees, white oak, grow thick at the trunk but do not get very high in our part of the Island because of the winds. Painting in my possession. Litho was made from it at request of A.A.A.Image measures 13.5 x 10, sheet is 15.75 x 12.5, and frame is 21 x 18 inches. The full untrimmed sheet, not laid down, two deckle edges, no stain, punctures, tears, there appear to be a number of reinforcements and or repairs to the paper, possible rebuilding of thin areas after the sheet was removed from a backing, plus a line across the top edge form a previous mounting.

They represent at sort of protest against the stultifying conventions over taking so much of our society. A number of those in her group wanted to try faming and found a good farm for sale out in mid Kansas. We bought this, two hundred and eighty one acres, and let them have a crack at running it. They are doing extraordinarily well. Though on the edge of the great plains, the country in this particular area of Kansas is broken. There are ridge and bottom lands and spring fed creeks. Here's the barn and the road out of the Benton farm.Image measures 11.25 x 14.25, sheet is 16.25 x 19, framed size is 20.5 x 23.5 inches.Very good to fine condition, the full untrimmed sheet, not laid down, no damage, stain, punctures, tears or repair, a very nice example.Provenance: Private collection, Des Moines, Iowa.

In the Fath catalog he is quoted as saying: From Section of Missouri Mural at Mo. State Capitol, Jefferson City, Mo. The incident according to legend happened in St. Louis though the Tune in various forms is earlier than the 1890 St. Louis story. Anyhow the story is a part of Missouri Mythology like the Jesse James and Huck Finn stories.Image measures 16 x 22, sheet is 20.5 x 24, with a framed size of 26 x 31.5 inches. An outstanding example. Fine to very fine, the complete sheet with deckle edge along the top and right side, equally wide margin on the left suggests that side is complete as well, original wider margin along the bottom, properly mounted with two minimal acid free hinges, not laid down, no stain, damage or repair, very clean and free from mat burn. A nice, dark impression in slightly better condition than the example sold by our firm in March of 2023.

I especially like those clear free flowing rivers of the Ozarks which have escaped the attentions of the Army Corps of Engineers. For years I've floated down these rivers every Spring either by canoe or 'jon' boat, an extra long sort of skift. Sometimes the water is fast and rough, at other times is slows up in deep pools. Generally the river floaters I run with make camp at the end of the day on the gravel bars lining one of these pools and fish them while supper is cooked. That's what this litho shows. It was so great that speculation about the end of the world was bruited about among the grown folks at the farm. As it turns out a straw stack had caught fire on an adjoining farm and some small tool sheds and part of a fence was burned. We all visited the place next morning and heard tell of how the farmer and his sons had got the scared horses of the the barn.
