19TH C. BRITISH WATERCOLOR ARTIST'S BOX, UNUSED Mahogany Deluxe Case full of all of the materials an artist could want, appears to be unused, having a hinged lid with paper label that reads "R. Ackermann, Manufacturer of Superfine Watercolors, 191 Regent Street" (London). A lift out tray at back contains twenty-four still wrapped cakes of color, and a stick of Chinese ink, under which are three compartments containing cotton wrapped sticks of black, white and bistre chalk. The central portion contains two recessed porcelain bowls, with pans of blue and red, three divot porcelain mixing palette, rubber eraser and ivory brush rest. The foremost compartment (with a second repetitive label) contains the various brushes, blending stumps and chalk holders; and an ivory handled blending sponge. A lift out pin in edge releases the shallow drawer with flush mount brass pull at bottom, which stores six square and two larger oblong porcelain mixing pans (still wrapped in paper). Lacking key. 3" x 12" x 8". Magnificent condition. Ackermann has hidden a calling card under the central palette.

ORIGINAL BAMBI ANIMATION CEL ON KEY MASTER BACKGROUNDAn original production animated cel painting set-up from Disney's Bambi (1942), featuring Bambi, Faline, and three rabbits, all trimmed and laminated between layers of clear celluloid. Below the celluloid is a key master production background painting, with a faded stamp seal to the bottom left corner of the image. Complete cel set-up by Courvoisier Galleries (San Francisco), and originally sold at Arthur Ackermann & Son (London/New York). Taken from the tag affixed to the reverse: "This original master 'background' and 'cel' painting from the Walt Disney Studios was used in the filming of BAMBI. Only one background is made for each scene, consequently this is the only one of its kind in existence. Copyright - All Rights Reserved, WALT DISNEY PRODUCTIONS". The mat sight measures 7 1/2" x 8 1/2", and the frame measures 14 5/8" x 15 3/4".
Condition
Not removed from the frame. There is significant damage to the cel animation layer, with rippling and bubbling to the lamination and flaking to the character paintings. However, the background painting remains intact in what appears to be very good condition.

Condition
The cover is generally worn but good, and the binding remains very good. The text block is very good as well, with only occasional minor issues (such as folds or smudges).
