A Seth Thomas Adamantine Mantel Clock Adamantine Clock Patented September 7 1880. Architectural form mantel clock with a pediment and cornice at the top plinth base with key clad in a faux rosewood veneer enameled dial with Arabic numerals behind a glass door with brass rim. Dated the clock was serviced have been written in pencil on he back of the access panel.Seth Thomas (1785-1859 apprenticed to a carpenter and then when 22 years of age he joined the firm Terry and Hoadley in clock making. He then started his clock factory in Plymouth Hollow and remained there until his death in 1859. He was regarded as one of the most honest and successful clock makers of his time. He is one of the most recognized makers even in modern time. Adamantine is a veneer developed by The Celluloid Manufacturing Company of New York City patented 1880.
