Alaskan (Reindeer People), c. 1900, walrus ivory. Six (6) decorative carvings, each mounted to an ivory base: a seal hunter dragging a kill, an ice fisher, three of seals, and one of a fox. Together with a painted lure with an unusual pattern of weights.
Hunter: 3 x 5 3/4 x 1 1/4 in. (7.6 x 14.6 x 3.2 cm.)

The ice fisher with detached fish, likely missing a rod to attach to the fishing line, meant to be held in the hand. The fox piece is lacking a mount to a peg atop the tree-trunk-like structure.

INUIT WHALEBONE & IVORY BIRDS PERCHING ON CLIFF CARVING...Native American / First Nations, Northwest Coast United States, Alaska or Canada, Inupiaq/Inuit people, ca. mid-20th century CE. Hand-carved walrus ivory birds perched on a whale bone cliff face. Miniature animal carvings were traditionally used as amulets to help hunters and small scenes often portrayed the environment the animals lived in. Cliffside bird colonies were an important seasonal food source for Indigenous arctic peoples, nearly everyone who was able to would climb to collect eggs and nesting birds, and large nets were used to harvest incoming birds. Size: 4" L x 2.5" W x 4.5" H (10.2 cm x 6.4 cm x 11.4 cm)
