Provenance: Gift from the artist's wife, Louisa Calder, in 1964 to Victoria Chess, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Other Notes: This brooch is registered with the Calder Foundation under application number A18775. This brooch was gifted to Victoria Chess in 1964 on the occasion of her parents, William and Virginia Chess, taking a trip to India without her. Close friend and neighbor, Louisa Calder, felt sorry for Victoria's exclusion from the trip and gifted her this brooch as consolation. Condition: an approx. 5/16 in. crack to gold; areas of oxidation to gold, especially verso.
