Painting after Balthazar Denner, older man wearing fur-trimmed coat, after a work by Balthasar Denner, German, 1685-1749, titled "Alter Mann", oil on panel, held by the Wien Museum (Vienna), European, 19th century, 15-3/8 x 12-1/8 in.; fine 19th century gilt wood and composition frame. Crackle, cupping, craquelure, panel with two battens; frame with abrasions, loss to composition, repairs. Said to have been purchased in 1972 from the daughter of Mr. Cavanaugh, accountant in St. Cloud, Florida. Entries from his logbooks indicate the painting was purchased by his father at auction in New York City from the collection of the P.T. Barnum & Bailey Museum.

Harold Altman (American 1924-2003) "Figures and Awnings II". Aquatint on paper signed in pencil lower right titled lower center margin and "Edition 65" lower left. Altman who was born in New York in 1924 is best known for his etchings and lithographs. His subjects are figures in landscapes focusing on soft and serene scenes connecting people to nature. This early and rare etching is rather dark depicting four figures walking away from awnings. The image itself measures apprx 23" x 18-1/4" overall with glass and frame apprx. 36" x 29-1/2".
