American Gun Company was a trade name used by H. & D. Folsom Arms Company on shotguns made by their subsidiary, Crescent Fire Arms Company.Barrels measure 26", left barrel is marked "GENUINE ARMORY STEEL CHOKE BORE". Shotgun features double triggers, checkered semi pistol grip rear stock and checkered forend. Overall length 42 1/2", 14" LOP. Finish has an overall light brown and grpatina. Receiver retains some of the case color. Lockup action closes tightly. Clean bores. Forend has small chip to front edge, rear stock has age appropriate wear with small minor hairline to left side extending from sideplate. Gun & Ammunition Manufacturers Kennedy Bros. Storefront Photograph A fine albumen photograph mounted to 10 x 12 in. of? the Kennedy Brothers Arms store in St. Paul Minnesota.? The central figures are presumably the Kennedy brothers themselves and the man at right is identified on verso as Al's Dad Gunsmith for Kennedy Brothers.? On each side of the storefront is sign advertising the business as manufacturers and dealers in guns rifles revolvers ammunition and hunting & camping equipment and the window displays include fishing tackle a multi-tool knife and a factory cutaway?'73 Winchester rifle.? A history of St. Paul by George E. Warner notes that the business was founded by W.F. Kennedy in 1867 who partnered with brothers J.C. and R.S. in 1872 and moved to the building seen here which included a first floor showroom and two floors of workshops above.? Kennedy Bros was especially prosperous due to its location at the edge of the northwestern frontier and had traveling salesman and representatives active throughout the Western states and Canada.? Theodore Roosevelt wrote of purchasing a rifle from the store on his way to a hunt in North Dakota. Condition: Print is in very good condition.? Mount chipped and stained.
