In a gilt wood frame that measures 36" x 41". Though George Ames Aldrich was born in Massachusetts and studied in France, he is most closely associated with the American Midwest, particularly Chicago, Illinois and South Bend, Indiana. He studied under a number of significant artists, including William Merritt Chase, John Twachtman, and James McNeill Whistler. He is best known for his scenes of villages and streams.
Condition
Viewed under blacklight without any evidence of touch-up or in-painting. There is some dry cracking to the paint layer in the white areas of the stream and sky, and the canvas is very gently buckled in the top left. Some losses to the frame.
