UNIDENTIFIED MODERNIST ZOOMORPHIC POTTERY VESSELAn unusual vintage modernist brown-glazed ceramic pitcher in the expressively abstract form of a rodent. Apparently unsigned, the artist is unidentified. Measures 8 3/4" x 5" x 8 1/2".
Condition
Good to very good condition, without any breaks noted (including the jaggedly-formed spout). There is some residue around the rim and onto one ear, and residue to the underside from a pad that has been otherwise removed.

Three pieces of stoneware pottery including a light blue vase and two low bowls. The ridged bowl is marked 8005 while the other two pieces are unmarked. Excellent condition. The vase is 8" tall. The bowls are 5 1/2" and 6 1/2" wide.

Warren MacKenzie was a renowned Minnesota studio potter. A student of Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada, he is credited with bringing the functional Mingei tradition to the United States, and spreading it through his own art and mentorship of students during his long tenure at the University of Minnesota.
Height ranges from 8 in to 11 1/4 in; diameter ranges from 5 1/2 in to 9 in.
Condition:
All three pieces are generally in good condition with no visible chips, cracks, or dents. When they were inspected under the UV light, there was no sign of restoration. Minor firing flaws throughout, original to the artistic process. Wear to the footrims consistent with age and use. Along the surface of the light brown vase, captured in the center in the lot listing, there is a 1-inch long residue along the neck; there is crazing throughout the piece, most distinctively by its neck and foot. Along the interior, there is a small area of accretions. The dark brown lidded jar has a network of accretions along all sides toward the footrim. There is a 1-inch long accretion along the neck of the brown vase. Please contact us for a detailed condition report.
