  CLASSICAL RENT TABLE. Ohio ca.1830 walnut cherry curly maple and pine. Octagonal top with four drawers and acorn drops over a bold baluster shaft and resting on cutout feet. 29''h. 24''d. Ex Pete and Ann Lowder (Ohio) sold at Garth's November 2005 lot 66 and May 2008 lot 6. The so-called rent table was a form designed for use on country estates with multiple drawers for organizing a landlord's records. More common in England rent tables were used in early America including by Thomas Jefferson at Monticello. A signed Hamilton County Ohio rent table was published in Made in Ohio: Furniture 1788-1888 entry 54. The present rent table was exhibited in Age of Optimism: Ohio Builds a Statehouse (Riffe Center Columbus 1996) and in Neoclassical Furniture (1780-1850) (Decorative Arts Center of Ohio Lancaster 1999-2000).
