PHOTO WORKS OF CHIN SAN LONG & ATKINS INTERVIEW"Photographic Works of Chin San Long" published by Photographic Society of China, 1972. Printed by China Art Printing Works. Including an interview in a Chinese magazine with William Atkins along with a translation in English of the interview.
Chin San Long is known for his innovative art photography, particularly his signature "composite photography" technique. He was the first Chinese photographer to take artistic nude photos, and also specialized in nature photography.
Provenance: From the collection of William Atkins.
William Atkins (1919-2001) was a pilot for Northwest Airlines, who spent his career flying to Asia. He was an avid photographer who was involved in the Photographic Society of America, through which he developed relationships with photography clubs worldwide. It was through the photographic society in Taiwan that he met Chin San Long, with whom he became close friends. In the 1970s, he arranged an exhibit for Chin San Long's photography in Minnesota.

The author Selig Hecht was the Vice-President of the Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists for which Albert Einstein was President. Einstein praises the book in his letter to Nuveen for giving a clear account of nuclear fission.

Ornithological study, gouache on wove paper, signed on wing lower left, in modern oak frame, matted under glass, OS: 18 1/2" x 14 3/4", SS: 13" x 7 3/4". Toned, light rippling. Aside from his religious and educational duties, the Reverend Christopher Atkinson was a fine artist, particularly of birds. His original sketches and paintings are highly collectable and quite rare. A number of publishing houses sell fine art prints of his works.

There are no chips, cracks, repairs, scratches or areas of heavy wear. Some images have the appearance of lines or scratches in their image. Each is clean without issue.
