Note: Painted the year that Delpy moved with his family to the Barbizon forest, this Salon-scale work depicts an autumn harvesting of grapes in the Nivernais, in the Loire Valley. The Sancerre hills are depicted here in a richly colored view at dawn with heavy impasto, reminiscent of his contemporaries, the Impressionists.

Lorena Phemister (American, 1920-2005), autumn harvest scene, litho; 8 3/4" x 12 1/2"; signed and numbered 3/10 in the lower margin. From the collection of Robert Lohman. Lorena was a renowned female artist from Indianapolis. She attended Arsenal Technical High School and studied at John Herron Art Institute. She was an art teacher at St. Francis College, Mishawaka High School and Arsenal Tech High school. She exhibited from 1943 until 1956 including the Hoosier Salon.
