SOBOSSEK, Stanley. O/C Autumn Trees over Stream Signed lower left. Stanley Sobossek, American/New York, 1918 - 1996, exhibited in annual Washington Square Park art shows in the 1950's and 1960's. Painted scenes of the Village, New Hope PA, New Orleans and the South, and Gloucester MA. Sobossek lived at 309 Sixth Ave in Greenwich Village in the 50's and c.1965, bought a building at 35 Cooper Square used as his studio and gallery as well as a bar, theatre, and music venue. Sizes: 24 x 36. The Smithsonian's Archives of American Art has files on the artist. Condition: needs cleaning of heavy cigarette smoke residue, otherwise good. PLEASE NOTE: Lot 167 from this estate has been professionally cleaned. Based on the size of the other Sobosseks and your location, similar cleanings would run $100-200. Provenance: friend of the artist.
