Provenance: Acquired from the artist by a noted collector Mississippi. Note: As a young artist in the mid 1960s Henry Casselli won a scholarship to study at John McCrady's art school on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter where he was artistically encouraged and mentored by the famed artist. At the age of nineteen Casselli enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps serving as a combat artist in Vietnam where he experienced firsthand the horrors and tragedies of modern warfare. Upon his return to New Orleans influenced by Edgar Degas Casselli became enthralled by the world of classical ballet dancers. He created a series of delicately rendered watercolors and pastels of dancers in the midst of rehearsals and performances.
