A Steuben Glass Lamp and ShadeA Steuben Glass Lamp and Shade The yellow acid cut glass vase-form body of the lamp sits on a high pierced gilt bronze base with a switch at the side. Above the vase is a decorative gilt metal stem, four electric sockets with pull chains, and a sculptural floral finial. It measures approx. 18-1/2"H to the top of the cap and 37-1/2"H to the top of the finial. The lampsade is formed in a cream color pleated silk with rows of French gimp at the top and bottom edges and silk cording fashioned into decorative pendents around the sides creating a lacy silhouette. The glass body of the lamp is relief cast in a mottled matte finish with images of leaves around the bottom, waves, and trees with birds in flight above.

Iridized lead glass with applied ornament. Shape #2468, p. 267 Paul V. Gardner book. Marked “Aurene”. Reference: Legendary subject. Noteworthy artist. Captivating portrait. Boasting both historic and artistic import. This remarkable rare original plaque depicts one of the most recognized and admired figures in history, President Abraham Lincoln. (abstracted from a M.S. Rau Antiques ad for sale of an oil painting) Relatively few pressed glass statuettes and ornamental pieces were made at Steuben. Nearly all produced from about 1928 to 1932, these consisted mainly of inserts for flower blocks.., relief-decorated panels and grilles, and decorative intaglio panels usually sold with supporting bases of glass or metal….The last named also included a portrait head of Washington (Catalog No. 7452) and of Lincoln (Catalog No. 7491). P. 93 of The Glass of Frederick Carder, by Paul V. Gardner. At page 52 of Garder is a picture III.89, of Gutzon Borglum, sculptor of Mt. Rushmore memorial c. 1937 showing Carder with a casting of a model of Lincoln’s head, a prototype for Mr. Rushmore.
