#4-Howard & Davis Banjo Clock ca. 1842-1857 8" painted dial signed "Howard and Davis Boston" faux-rosewood painted case with weight and crank. Reverse painted throat and pendulum glass. Edward Howard (1813-1904) apprenticed to Arron Willard Jr. at an early age. He was a mechanical genius and received the best training from Willard. In 1842 he made clocks in a small factory at Roxbury Connecticut; the name was Howard and Davis. In 1854 he made watches under the name of Dennison Howard and Davis. The Howard Watch Company later became the Waltham Watch Company.

Howard Weight Driven Banjo Clock ca. 1840-50 Faux-rosewood finish original hand painted 12" dial with seconds appears to be original original 8" pendulum and tie down concentric circle pattern gilded pendulum sticks has weight. Appears to be original reverse painted throat and pendulum door glass. Winding crank included. Edward Howard (1813-1904) apprenticed to Arron Willard Jr. at an early age. E. Howard & Co cherry No. 5 banjo clock late 19th century painted iron dial ahead of eight-day weight-driven movement with red black and gold throat and door glasses. H29'' W12'' D3 3/4'' Provenance: Atlanta Georgia private collection. Clock bottom board has been displaced and re-attached there is no visible rosewood graining on case movement is complete however the clock will not keep running after being started other minor imperfections consistent with age.

BANJO CLOCK. Howard and Davis Boston ca.1860 cherry. Of typical form with original dial marked ''Howard & Davis Boston.'' Case with original rosewood graining and original eglomise tablets. The weight is marked ''4'' and the pendulum is engraved. 32''h. Case with original finish and only a few blemishes (the worst are at the top of the dial) the tablets have some lifting and light flaking to the paint but still better than 90% present; retains key pendulum and weight appear original; the right screw that holds the middle tablet in place has split out its hole slightly but not noticeable when the lower door is closed.
