"BAUSCH & LOMB/EST 1888/USA" marked on underside of mount. Light scuffs, scratches and wear throughout brass and wood of telescope and tripod. Small chip and loss to wood on bottom of one tripod leg. Original lens cap is missing. Telescope measures 48 1/8" W. Diameter of lens is 3 3/8". Tripod with mount is 57 1/2" H. Tripod at largest width is 33 1/2" W. 33 lbs. total.

DEC. 14, 86 / FAIRPOINT, N.Y." with a serial number of 830. Sliding tube coarse focus adjustment and knob fine focus adjustment, with adjustable lamp and two Bausch and Lomb lenses. Original velvet-lined leather case (also marked with the 830 serial number). Invented by Ezra Griffith and for a time produced in association with Bausch and Lomb, known Griffith Club microscope serial numbers range from about 107-1070, with very few examples surviving in good condition. The case measures 4 x 9.5 x 7 inches. The microscope is adjustable in size, but generally measures about 10.5 x 11 x 7 inches when set up. Source: Microscope-Antiques Condition Some pitting/tarnish, but the microscope is in overall good condition. No glass chimney on the lamp. The box's leather-cover exterior is in poor condition, including a snapped handle.

The case measures 4 x 9.5 x 7 inches. The microscope is adjustable in size, but generally measures about 10.5 x 11 x 7 inches when set up. Source: Microscope-Antiques Condition Good condition. Adjustable mechanisms are in working order, noting only that the two prongs connecting the lamp arm only easily slide halfway into the sockets on the side of the microscope's base. There is no oil lamp present. There is a good amount of tarnish to the brass, which may be cleaned if so desired. The leather-covered exterior of the case is in poor condition, which is true of all surviving examples of which we are aware.

Manufactured by the Bausch and Lomb Optical Company, the handsome instrument is comprised of painted iron feet, a frame, and polished brass attachments. The frame features a body tube, adjustment knobs, a revolving nosepiece, a circular stage with clips, and an adjustable concave mirror. The drawer contains the 2 different eye lenses and 2 brass capsule cases. The patent dates and maker names are stamped on the frame and stage. The microscope comes with the original wooden storage box with a brass handle for travel. Inside is a drawer with storage for the eye lenses. The original magnification chart is pinned on the door for ease of reference. A great decorative piece for an office!
